Former Tshwane executive mayor Murunwa Makwarela died this morning after a short illness
The 52 year old resigned from his post almost a year ago after he allegedly failed to disclose his insolvency status to the city.
He was facing a number of criminal charges at the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court. Makwarela has been hailed as a devoted public servant, whose death shocked many in the political landscape.
