In the Electoral Commission’s attempt to appeal the Electoral Court decision that allowed former President Jacob Zuma to continue on the newly established uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party’s candidate list prior to the May 2024 elections, the Constitutional Court has provided guidance.
The Constitutional Court has instructed former President Jacob Zuma and the MK Party to file their papers by this Thursday if they intend to oppose the IEC’s appeal. The court case is over Zuma’s eligibility for a parliamentary seat
The Court is yet to provide reasons behind the decision to set aside the IEC’s March decision to uphold objections against Zuma’s candidature due to the contempt of court finding against him by the apex court and the subsequent sentence of 15- months imprisonment given to Zuma in 2021.
