Cape Town, November 13, 2025 – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) announced that its Deputy Secretary General, Leigh-Ann Mathys, will formally open a perjury case against Cedrick Nkabinde, Chief of Staff to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The action targets Nkabinde’s allegedly deceptive testimony before a parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee, which the EFF says directly caused the panel’s abrupt adjournment and stalled critical oversight proceedings.
Mathys, who also serves on the committee, is set to file the charges at 17:00 this evening at the South African Police Service headquarters in Cape Town.
“This is a clear case of perjury that undermined the integrity of our democratic institutions,”

The EFF stated in a press release, emphasizing the party’s commitment to holding public officials accountable.
EFF National Spokesperson Sinawo Thambo described the move as “a necessary step to restore truth and transparency in governance.” No immediate response was available from Minister Mchunu’s office.
