Former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party has issued an urgent cease and desist demand to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), ordering the broadcaster to stop using the term “Government of National Unity” to describe the current political coalitions.
Zuma vehemently rejects the label, stating that the alliance between the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) is driven by big business interests rather than the needs of the people.
He likened the partnership to “apartheid and colonialism in disguise.”The MK Party has given the SABC an ultimatum to comply by 13:00 on June 29, 2024, or face legal action.
Zuma’s party is adamant that the broadcaster’s use of the term is misleading and perpetuates a false narrative about the country’s political landscape.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions and power struggles within South Africa’s political sphere, with Zuma’s MK Party seeking to challenge the dominant narrative and assert its own vision for the country’s future.
