WATCH: Solly Mapaila says SACP will not Join ANC’s 100-days GNU Celebration

NEWSPOLITICS

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has declined an invitation from the African National Congress (ANC) to join in celebrating the 100-days milestone of the Government of National Unity (GNU) today, October 14, 2024.

On the hundredth day of the GNU celebrations tomorrow, we have rejected the invitation; we will not be going. Although it’s been combined with thanking the people who voted for the ANC, for which we were part of the campaign, it feels sad, but we will not be going as the Communist Party.

SACP Secretary-General Solly Mapaila made the announcement during a media briefing at the party’s Johannesburg headquarters on Sunday.Mapaila cited a previously scheduled bilateral meeting between the SACP and ANC, coinciding with the GNU celebration, as the reason for their decision. He expressed disappointment with the ANC’s timing, suggesting it undermines their partnership and the pressing issues they intended to discuss.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has voiced strong concerns that the African National Congress (ANC) is watering down its core values by partnering with conservative forces within the Government of National Unity (GNU)
