
Two female police officers, a Constable and a Sergeant , were arrested on Thursday following a widely circulated video showing them assaulting a woman inside the Hiededal police station in Bloemfontein.
In response, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), carried out an investigation ,prompting a swift arrest regarding the incident which allegedly occurred on 19 January 2025. Reports indicate that the victim had approached the police for assistance after her boyfriend violated a protection order. Instead she faced physical assault at the hands of the two officers as shown on the circulating video.

In a media statement issued on Friday, 7 February 2025, the Minister of Police , Senzo Mchunu commended the prompt response by IPID, emphasising the government’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within the South African Police Service (SAPS) .
Law enforcement officers are entrusted with upholding the law and protecting the rights of all citizens. Any actions that betray this responsibility will be met with full might of the law.

The Minister also assured the public that due process will take its course and that the SAPS remains committed to ethical policing and accountability.
Spokesperson for the Minister of Police, Kamogelo Mogotsi confirmed the arrest and stated that the two female officers remain under police custody awaiting their court appearance before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today.
