The United States government has announced that it will begin to consider refugee admissions for White Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of racial discrimination and violence. This move follows concerns raised by U.S. President Donald Trump, who took to social media to address the safety and well-being of the minority White Afrikaans group, claiming that they are being unfairly targeted in South Africa.

In a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State, officials confirmed that they will begin accepting refugee applications from White Afrikaners who are fleeing what they describe as persecution in South Africa. This announcement follows discussions within the White House, which revealed plans to develop a strategy for the resettlement of Boers and their families as refugees in the United States.

The statement from the U.S. government outlined that they will prioritise humanitarian relief, with a particular focus on the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) to assist Afrikaners facing violence and discrimination. The program will streamline the process for qualifying individuals seeking asylum and resettlement in the U.S., providing them with an opportunity to rebuild their lives away from the threat of harm in South Africa.

Volkstaat, a political action committee that advocates for U.S. support for Afrikaners, echoed these sentiments, reporting that the White House is working to establish a comprehensive plan to facilitate the relocation of those affected. The committee emphasized the urgency of addressing the perceived rise in attacks against White South Africans, particularly in rural areas, and the growing concerns about the erosion of their rights in the country.

The South African Chamber of Commerce in the United States has also reported receiving an influx of relocation inquiries, with over 10,000 inquiries for potential resettlement. This suggests that there is a significant interest among White Afrikaners to seek refuge in the U.S., driven by fears of escalating violence and discrimination in their home country.

In response to the growing concern, the U.S. embassy in South Africa issued a statement on Tuesday, confirming that it is actively reviewing applications for refugee status. The embassy emphasized that it is carefully assessing the eligibility of individuals who claim to be victims of persecution, with a commitment to ensuring that the process adheres to the strict standards of U.S. immigration and refugee policies.
