Tragedy Strikes Kwamakhutha with Heavy Rainfall Collapsing Houses

On the 20th of February 2025, the community of Kwamakhutha, South of Durban was shaken by a devastating incident where a house collapsed leaving the parents trapped inside the collapsed structure.

The paramedics and local authorities were called immediately and confirmed that the children were able to escape the building on time.

ALS Paramedics and the SAPS Rescue team are currently on scene trying to dig through to recover the bodies. It is also believed that one person has been killed in a separate landslide.

According to the ALS paramedics’ spokesperson , Garrith Jamieson, the cause of the collapse was heavy rainfall from last night, however the police have launched an investigation into the incident.

In the meantime, the people of Kwamakhutha are gathered at the scene as eyewitnesses and to also support one another during this difficult time.

One body has been recovered. Please note that this is an ongoing story, and updates will be shared as more information becomes available. Local authorities are still on the scene.
