The rumored TikTok ban in the United States, set for January 19, 2024, has begun. Creators and users are now receiving notifications that, due to the new law banning the app, they can no longer access TikTok until further notice.

As expected, the ban has created a widespread frustration due to the uncertainty of the future of the app, as many of its users rely on the app for financial support as it offers brand partnerships, and serves as a platform for many to promote their businesses. with the apps future shrouded in uncertainty, many of its US users are trying to use platforms such as Instagram, Youtube, and now a new app, Rednote, to promote and create content.

The ban, which first started circulating as rumour in early 2020, has finally been followed through because US officials are concerned about national security as they feel that ByteDance, which is a parent company to TikTok, may share its user data with the Chinese government.
