The pre-trial hearing in the case of Joslin Smith’s disappearance has been adjourned to February 28, 2025.

Three suspects arrested in connection with the disappearance of seven-year-old Joslin Smith were scheduled to appear at the Cape Town High Court today. However, only Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, was present in court. Her co-accused were not brought to the dock due to administrative errors.

Smith, and her boyfriend, Joaquin Appollis and Steveno Van Rhyn are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.

Joslin disappeared on the 19th of February 2024 at the age of six in Saldanha Bay.
This case raised a lot of commotion throughout the country.

Her mother reported her daughter’s disappearance at the Middelpos informal settlement. She reported that Joslin was left under the care of Joaquin Appollis when she went missing.

Initially, there were four accused in this case. However, at their last court appearance in October last year at the Vredenburg magistrates court, the charges against the fourth suspect, Laurentia Lombard were dropped and she turned state witness.

Through investigation it has been found that plans to sell Joslin had been made since 2023.

According to a source, two of the four suspects allegedly confessed to selling Joslin to a traditional healer for R20,000. However, no evidence has been found to support this claim.

February 19, 2025, will mark one year since little Joslin disappeared. Despite extensive search efforts, the child remains missing. Investigations are ongoing.
