Convicted Murderer Thabo Bester detained at Kgosi Mampuru ll CMAX Prison, has filed a legal challenge against the South African Department of Correctional Services (DCS) alleging severe violations of his constitutional rights. Bester’s legal team claim that he has been subjected to inhumane detention conditions, including solitary confinement for up to 23 hours a day, since his incarceration on April 13, 2023.
According to Bester’s attorney, Ms. Reid, the conditions at CMAX have significantly impaired her client’s ability to prepare a defense and violate his right to a fair trial. The allegations include:
