In a major breakthrough, law enforcement agencies have apprehended a syndicate believed to be behind a series of cash-in-transit (CIT) armed robberies, ATM bombings, and illegal mining activities. The arrests were made in Welkom, Free State, during a joint operation coordinated by SAPS Crime Intelligence, the National Intervention Unit, and the SAPS FS Explosives section.
The syndicate, comprised of three men and a woman, is allegedly involved in numerous cases where explosives were deployed to carry out crimes such as ATM bombings, CIT heists, and illicit mining in the provinces of Free State, Eastern Cape, North West, and Gauteng.
During the operation, authorities seized a significant haul from the suspects, including 40 explosives and various accessories used to facilitate their illicit activities.
