The State says it will oppose the bail application in the case of three men accused of killing community activist Loyiso Nkohla. The accused, Zukisa Tshabile, Mziyanda Mdlungu and Mzubanzi Chulayo appeared briefly in the Athlone magistrates court in Cape Town
The former Ses’khona People’s Movement leader was gunned down in April last year while addressing residents near a satellite police station in Philippi.
It is believed that Nkohla was targeted for his role in talks to clear the Central railway Line, where residents built their houses on the tracks. The state alleges that the suspects plotted to have him killed.
Tshabile has abandoned bail and he is due to appear in court again on the 28-th of March.
A formal bail application of his two co-accused is set to go ahead on the 4th of March.
