The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), hosted the first G20 Education Working Group Meeting for two days as from Wednesday, in Pretoria.
Honouring the theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability” the two-day function is co-chaired by the Director-General of GHET, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi together with the Director-General of DBE, Dr Mathanzima Mweli.

The event aims to prioritize and focus discussions on quality foundational learning, mutual recognition of qualifications in a global context, and education professional development for a changing world.
The G20 (Group Twenty) is an intergovernmental forum consisting of twenty-one countries. It was created to address global issues, one of them being the state of education. 2025 is the first time that an African economy leads the G20 for a rotational, one-year term.
