Sixty60 Goes Where It’s Needed Most

Shoprite is shaking up grocery shopping once again! The retailer’s Sixty60 delivery service, once limited to Checkers supermarkets and Hyper stores, is now making its way into townships, starting with a pilot program at Shoprite Jabulani in Soweto, Gauteng.
For many South Africans, online grocery delivery has always been a luxury reserved for suburban and urban areas. But Shoprite is changing the game by bringing fast, affordable, and reliable grocery deliveries to communities where access to large supermarkets is not always easy.
And that’s just the beginning. Following successful trials in Gauteng and the Western Cape, Shoprite is rolling out Sixty60 in 19 stores across eight provinces!
A phased approach will ensure that each location delivers the same top-tier service that Sixty60 is known for. The first stores kicking off the expansion
this month are:
• Shoprite Kleinmond, Western Cape
• Shoprite Kriel in Ga-Nala, Mpumalanga
Neil Schreuder, Shoprite’s Chief of Strategy and Innovation, shared in a recent statement that the company’s goal is to bring Sixty60 to areas where it can have a meaningful impact. He added that township communities, where many residents rely on taxis for grocery shopping, are set to benefit greatly from this convenient doorstep delivery service.
But that’s not all. Checkers is also launching a brand-new e-commerce website, making it easier for even more shoppers to enjoy the convenience of Sixty60. This move is especially important for Huawei
smartphone users, who often struggle to access mobile apps like those available to Samsung and Apple users.
“Huawei is the third most popular mobile phone brand in South Africa. This means 2.6 million potential customers can shop on Sixty60 for the first time,” Shoprite confirmed.
Current Sixty60 users can access the site by simply entering their mobile number. New users can sign up quickly and easily, and will automatically be enrolled in the Checkers Xtra Savings rewards program, unlocking exclusive deals and premium rewards for a more personalized shopping experience.
To enhance security, Checkers employs a One-Time Password (OTP) system, allowing customers to log in and complete their transactions safely and with confidence.
With this bold expansion, Shoprite and Checkers are redefining grocery shopping in South Africa. By reaching township markets and improving digital access, they are making sure that everyone no matter where they live or what phone they use, can shop smarter, faster, and more conveniently.
Sixty60 is no longer just for big-city dwellers. It’s for all South Africans. And this is just the start!
