
The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a 66-year-old man in connection with the possession of stolen copper cables and housebreaking tools following a dramatic high-speed chase near a farm in Odendaalsrus on Friday.
According to a statement released by the SAPS,officers acted on a tip-off received on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 regarding a potential business robbery at a power plant in the precinct. The police were immediately mobilised to investigate the matter.
On their way to the identified farm, they encountered a suspicious-looking charcoal Chevrolet vehicle. When the police attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to comply leading to a high-speed pursuit.

The suspects later abandoned their vehicle near Van de Vyver Road from where they fled on foot into the bushes. Police managed to apprehend one male , upon searching, rolls of copper cable valued at approximately R150 000 along with housebreaking tools were discovered.
The 65-year-old is expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 January 2025.
