South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Solly Mapaila has accused the African National Congress (ANC) of prioritizing opposition parties over its own allies
Mapaila pointed out that the ANC shows more respect to smaller parties, such as the Patriotic Alliance (PA), than to its own coalition partners. He also alleged that the ANC listens more intently to the Democratic Alliance (DA) than to its allies.
The SACP leader specifically expressed frustration over the ANC’s decision to appoint Siviwe Gwarube as Education Minister, despite the SACP’s objections. Mapaila claimed that the ANC ignored their concerns, indicating a pre-arranged deal.
“The day after the cabinet announcement, DA leader John Steenhuisen boasted about bargaining hard,” Mapaila said. “It’s clear that the ANC is more willing to listen to the DA than to its own allies.”
