Rwandan President Paul Kagame issued a statement on X (Twitter), as a response to recent statements by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and other officials regarding the conflict in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Wednesday night.

Kagame accused South African authorities and President Ramaphosa himself ,of misrepresenting their conversations, spreading falsehoods, and making deliberate attacks against Rwanda. He confirmed that he held two conversations this week with Ramaphosa to discuss the DRC situation.

If words can change so much from a conversation to a public statement, it says a lot about how these very important issues are being managed.

Following President Ramaphosa’s statement on X addressing the killings amid the DRC conflict, Kagame dismissed claims that Ramaphosa issued any warnings to Rwanda. He stated that their conversations were centered on logistical support for South African troops, including electricity, food , and water supplies.

President Ramaphosa confirmed to me that M23 did not kill the soldiers from South Africa, FARDC did.

The Rwandan leader criticized the Southern African Development Community Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), calling it a “belligerent” force rather than a peacekeeping mission. He accused SAMIDRC of engaging in offensive combat operations alongside genocidal armed groups such as the FLDR, which Kigali considers a threat to Rwanda’s security.

So long, Kagame questioned South Africa’s ability to mediate the conflict, suggesting that Rwanda is prepared to address any confrontational approach.
