Bail proceedings for Bafana Mahungela, the Twenty-one-year-old accused of murdering Johannesburg teacher Kirsten Kluyts has been remanded until 18-20 December for further bail. Bafana Mahungela will remain in custody until then
Rape, robbery, and premeditated murder were added to Mahungela’s charge sheet when he appeared in court on Wednesday. His lawyer, Advocate Itumeleng Masako, said he was unaware of the additional charges and the upgrading of the murder charge to pre-meditated murder.
English teacher Kluyts, 34, was attacked in October while participating in the MyRun organized running event in George Lea Park in Sandton. Kluyts was employed at Delta Park High School, Kluyts’ body was discovered on the running track at the Sandton Sports Club
The accused, Bafana, took the stand and said he first saw Kirsten Kluyts at a restaurant in Parkmore. He denies having raped the deceased.
