President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Elon Musk’s Starlink, a leading global internet connectivity provider, has expressed interest in investing in South Africa. The company, which operates in 70 countries worldwide, has submitted a proposal to the government to expand internet access in the country.

According to President Ramaphosa, high-level discussions have been held with Starlink representatives, and the government is eager to explore the potential benefits of their investment. The President emphasized the importance of improved internet connectivity in achieving South Africa’s digital transformation goals.

“We are pleased that Starlink has approached us with a proposal to invest in our country,” President Ramaphosa said. “We believe that their investment will contribute significantly to bridging the digital divide and enhancing internet access in South Africa.”

Musk, who was born in South Africa, is the world’s richest person. Last week, Zimbabwe became the 16th nation in Africa to get access to the high-speed internet service
