
The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa defended the Expropriation Bill against United States of America President, Donald Trump. This follows Trump’s starement on Twitter(X) , posted on Monday, 3 February 2025.
The US President shared on his Truth Social X account accusing South Africa of confiscating land and treating certain classes of people ‘very badly’ referring to the recently signed into law Expropriation Bill.
“I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed,” Trump further stated.

In response, Ramaphosa immediately reacted towards the accusations.
South Africa is a constitutional democracy that is deeply rooted in the rule of law, justice, and equality. The South African government has not confiscated any land.

President Ramaphosa signed the Expropriation Bill into law on 23 January 2025 and has since received different views.
Ramaphosa says that he looks forward to engaging with President Trump over issues of bilateral interest and concern.
