President Cyril Ramaphosa of the Republic of South Africa has put forward the nomination of Justice Mandisa Maya for the esteemed position of Chief Justice. If appointed, Maya will make history as the first woman to hold this position since the inception of democracy in the country.
Currently serving as the Deputy Chief Justice, “Maya brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Her journey in the judiciary began in 2000 when she was first appointed to the bench.” Said President Cyril Ramaphosa

With Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s term of office coming to an end on August 31, 2024, President Ramaphosa’s nomination of Justice Mandisa Maya is timely. As part of the selection process, the President has extended an invitation to leaders of political parties represented in the National Assembly to provide their input on the suitability of Deputy Chief Justice Maya for this esteemed position.
