GENERAL NEWS

President Cyril Ramaphosa will not face corruption and money laundering charges related to the Phala Phala saga. The Director of Public Prosecutions in Limpopo has declined to prosecute the matter against the head of state

The Phala Phala scandal involves an alleged cover-up of a 2020 burglary at Ramaphosa’s Limpopo game farm, where approximately $580,000 in undeclared game proceeds were stolen. Former spy boss Arthur Fraser opened a case against Ramaphosa and Wally Rhoode, the former head of the presidential protection unit, last year

Fraser’s allegations included claims that Ramaphosa failed to report the crime and that suspects were kidnapped, interrogated, and bribed to conceal the incident. However, Ramaphosa denied any wrongdoing, stating that the money was from selling game animals and that he didn’t report the theft to avoid causing alarm in the farming community

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed its decision not to pursue charges against Ramaphosa. Mthunzi Mhaga, the NPA’s national spokesperson, announced that the Director of Public Prosecutions in Limpopo had declined to prosecute the matter
