Cape Town, South Africa – A parliamentary committee meeting descended into chaos on Thursday as Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka levied serious allegations against Member of Parliament David Skosana, accusing him of threatening the CEO of her office, Thandi Sibanyoni.
According to Gcaleka, Skosana, who is also the husband of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Busisiwe Mkhwebane, made threatening calls and sent menacing messages to Sibanyoni. Mkhwebane was impeached from the Public Protector’s office last year.
Gcaleka cited a conflict of interest due to Mkhwebane’s participation in the meeting, particularly in questioning the security arrangements for Sibanyoni, given her ongoing security dispute with the office. The Public Protector revealed that threats against Sibanyoni had been reported to the police, including an SMS from an unknown number that read: “If fighter Mkhwebane doesn’t get her money, we will pay your sons a visit. Your choice.”Skosana, who is not a member of the justice committee, attended the meeting and denied the allegations, challenging Gcaleka to provide evidence. “I have a right to be here, and if she doesn’t like that, she can go jump,” he stated.
Gcaleka expressed feeling threatened by Skosana’s remarks and announced plans to compile a written report on the security threats and alleged involvement.
