South Africa’s Parliament Presiding offers held a media briefing on Parliament’s preparations for the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza together with the National Council of Provinces Chairperson Refilwe Matshweni-Tsipane informed the media of SONA 2025 proceedings.
President Ramaphosa will deliver SONA tomorrow, Thursday 6 February 2025 at 19:00. In commemoration of South Africa’s 30 years of democracy, the theme for this SONA is titled “A nation that works for all.’

Didiza touched on the significance of the event, saying,
“This occasion is the culmination of months of meticulous preparation and coordination, highlighting its crucial role in shaping the national discourse and setting the tone for the year ahead.”
The State of the Nation Address (SONA) provides the government with an opportunity to respond to its citizens. It allows President Cyril Ramaphosa, as Head of State, to address the nation and review key matters of national importance. The event also serves as a platform for holding the government accountable, as it is expected to provide updates on the country’s economic, social, and legislative progress, as well as outline future expectations.
In ensuring that the public receives credible, factual, and unbiased information, parliament has approved over 800 local and international media representatives to cover the event.
Supporting local talent, local economy and industries SONA continues a few significant traditions. President Ramaphosa will be ushered into the chambers by a 19-year-old Imbongi from the Eastern Cape. All parliamentary members and guests are encouraged to wear locally produced attire. SONA has also partnered with several local companies to cater for the event.
Parliament encourages the public to tune in tomorrow and engage with SONA as it holds great significance in working together to shape South Africa’s future.
