President Ramaphosa Empathises with SANDF Mourning Families

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa empathises with and sends his condolences to the families and friends of the 13 fallen soldiers, in the DRC war. In the past 2 weeks, The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has lost 13 soldiers so far in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The provincial capital of the eastern DRC, Goma is under severe attack as the M23 attempts a take-over of the city.

Ramaphosa ensures the public that the families of the deceased and of the injured are receiving all the necessary support. This includes the process of having the remains of the deceased sent back to their families soon.

These attacks have also resulted in the deaths of many other members from other troops of other countries namely Tanzania and Malawi. Ramaphosa also sends his heartfelt condolences to their families, governments, and citizens.

The president still maintains that SANDF’s goal in support of the DRC is to help achieve lasting peace and stability, not only in Congo but also in Africa. “We must silence the guns on our continent for the attainment of inclusive development and prosperity,” stated Ramaphosa.

The United Nations Security Council held a special session on the situation in the DRC, calling for the immediate end to hostilities and the reversal of territorial expansion by the M23, the exit of external forces from DRC, and the resumption of peace talks under the Nairobi Process.

So long, the Department of Defence is working to ensure that the SAMIDRC forces remain well-equipped and sufficiently supported during this critical mission.
