President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed deep sadness over the passing of former Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, who died at the age of 75 after a period of illness.
Gordhan, a lifelong activist and dedicated public servant, leaves behind a legacy of commitment to the fight against apartheid, corruption, and his tireless efforts to promote good governance and transparency.
President Ramaphosa offered his condolences to Gordhan’s family, including his spouse, Vanitha Raju, daughters Anisha and Priyesha, brother Manecklal Gordhan, and sister Shanta Harilal. He also extended his thoughts to Gordhan’s extended family, comrades, and associates
Gordhan served in various capacities, including Minister of Finance, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and Public Enterprises. He was also a former Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service and played a key role in the country’s transition to democracy.
Ramaphosa praised Gordhan’s outstanding leadership, intellect, integrity, and energy, saying, “We have lost an outstanding leader… whose personal sacrifices and endeavours endowed him with the insights, empathy, and resilience that fuelled his service to the nation.”
Gordhan’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, with many honoring his dedication to the country and his fight against corruption
