The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) expressed deep sorrow following the tragic loss of KwaZulu-Natal Infrastructure Manager, Jacob Khoaele. He was fatally shot in La Lucia on the evening of Wednesday, 22 January 2025.
PRASA Group CEO, Hishaam Emeran shared heartfelt condolences on behalf of the organisation.
Jacob was a valued member of our team, and his contributions are greatly appreciated. He played a pivotal role in the rail recovery program and demonstrated unmatched dedication to his work.
In a media statement released by PRASA, Emeran highlighted Khoaele’s remarkable accomplishments as an engineer. His master thesis on regenerative braking in Metrorail trains reflected his passion for innovation and the rail sector.
“This is an incredibly difficult moment for the PRASA family and friends. Jacob’s loss is deeply felt , and we extend our sincerest condolences and support to his loved ones,” read the statement.
Jacob Khoaele’s passing marks a significant loss to PRASA and the broader engineering community, as he was not only a professional of great skills but also a colleague admired by many.
Khoaele’s death is currently under investigation by law enforcement agencies. No further details have been released regarding the motive or suspects involved in the attack.
