The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit seized 80, 000 mandrax tablets during a stop-and-search operation in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday, 21 January 2025.

Officers acted upon intelligence and raided a suspected drug stronghold in Beacon Valley. The operation, which took place at an address on Volvo Street, targeted a site believed to be connected to one of the city’s major gangs.

At about 13:40pm, police arrived at the scene, and secured the premises and its occupants. Amid searching, officers inspected a Hybduai LDV parked on the property and found false compartment. After forcefully opening it, they discovered the substantial haul of mandrax tablets concealed inside.

A 26-year-old male and a 33-year-old female were apprehended for dealing in drugs.

They remain under police custody and are set to appear in the Mitchells Magistrate’s Court once they’re charged.
