Najwa Dirk, the woman convicted of orchestrating the murder of her husband, legendary Cape Town musician Taliep Petersen, has been granted parole after serving nearly 18 years of her sentence.
Dirk was found guilty of masterminding the killing, which occurred almost two decades ago. Petersen, a renowned figure in the Cape music scene, was tragically murdered, leaving behind a legacy of music and a community in mourning.
Taliep’s family is considering appealing the decision
Najwa Dirk’s parole comes with strict conditions, which the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) will disclose in the near future. As part of the reintegration process, parole officials plan to hold a Community Imbizo in Athlone, where they will meet with residents to address concerns and provide information.
Currently, Dirk is being held at Pollsmoor Prison, having been transferred from Worcester Female Prison in recent years. The DCS will provide further details on her parole conditions in due course.
