Johannesburg, South Africa – A 21-year-old South African woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday morning, marking the 11th drug-related arrest at the airport in less than two months.
The suspect, arriving from São Paulo, Brazil, was apprehended by authorities after an X-ray scan revealed she had ingested drugs. She has begun expelling the substances, according to officials.
The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement agencies to crack down on drug smuggling operations at South Africa’s major airports.
Since August, OR Tambo International Airport has seen a significant increase in drug-related arrests, with 11 suspects apprehended in just eight weeks.
