The ANC’s first Deputy Secretary General, Nomvula Mokonyane met with journalists and political analysists at the ANC Kwa-Zulu Natal media breakfast, to discuss important national and international issues ahead of the party’s 113th January 8th Statement Provincial Celebration.

Mokonyane spoke about the importance of the informal sector in South Africa’s economy. She explained that many people rely on small businesses, street vending, and farming for a living, but often lack proper support.

She said the ANC is committed to helping small businesses grow by giving them better access to funding, training, and market opportunities. She also called for closer cooperation between the government and private businesses to strengthen this sector.

Mokonyane also highlighted the ANC’s role in the Government of National Unity (GNU), a coalition of different political parties working together after the 2024 elections. She said the ANC will focus on reducing unemployment, poverty, and improving infrastructure.

She stressed that political teamwork is key to solving South Africa’s problems. She said the ANC’s goal, is to ensure that the government remains focused on improving people’s lives.

Mokonyane also spoke about the need to improve South Africa’s roads, railways, and ports. She said that better transport systems will help businesses trade more easily, create more jobs, and boost the economy.

She addressed the recent deaths of South African soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). While she didn’t provide full details, she assured that the Commander-in-Chief will soon give an official briefing to explain what happened.

Mokonyane also spoke about the potential impact of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies on HIV treatment in South Africa. She criticized the reduction in U.S. funding for HIV/AIDS programs, warning that this could have serious consequences for thousands of South Africans who depend on these treatments.

Also shed light on Trump’s Cuts to HIV Treatment Funding, she said that South Africa must find ways to protect its public health programs and reduce reliance on external funding. The ANC remains committed to ensuring that life-saving treatment continues to reach those in need despite the financial challenges.

She said this tragedy has raised questions about South Africa’s involvement in peacekeeping missions and the risks faced by soldiers. The upcoming briefing will provide more information and discuss possible changes to the country’s role in international peace efforts.
