Soweto, Johannesburg – A heart-wrenching mass funeral service was held today 13 October 2024 in Naledi, Soweto, for five children who tragically lost their lives allegedly due to consuming poisoned snacks.
Family members, friends, and community members gathered in large numbers to bid a tearful farewell to the young victims. A Sixth child from has passed away, confirmed earlier today. The child had been hospitalized since last week.

The incident sparked widespread outrage in the Soweto community, with residents taking to the streets to protest and forcibly close spaza shops owned by foreign nationals.
Faith Leaders speak out
Pastor Siyabong Mphikwa, representing Faith-Based Organizations, addressed the mourners, saying:”This is a repetition of what happened last year.
As faith-based organizations, we declare that enough is enough. Let there be light in Naledi. No more burying young, innocent souls in this community. We say enough is enough as pastors.”
