
Nelspruit, 14 January 2025 – Mpumalanga police have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of a 43-year-old male suspect in Pienaar earlier today. The arrest is linked to a tragic shooting at a tavern in Pienaar township, which left several people dead and others injured. The incident occurred during a shocking act of violence at the tavern, resulting in the deaths of multiple individuals. Six others, including five males and one female, were rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

During the arrest, law enforcement confiscated three pistols, though no ammunition was found. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether the suspect is connected to the attack.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the investigation team for their swift action. “This breakthrough is a testament to the dedication of our officers in addressing violent crimes. We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice,” he said.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue.
