The spirit of love and community was in full swing over the weekend as the MKP Gauteng hosted a heartwarming Valentine’s Day lunch for senior
citizens in Dobsonville, Soweto. The event was a celebration of gratitude, companionship, and the importance of recognising the elderly in the community.

One of the most touching moments of the gathering was when a105-year-old grandmother, fondly referred to as ‘Gogo,’ received an MKP membership card. Gogo had expressed her heartfelt wish on TikTok to become an MKP member, and her request quickly gained traction online. In a beautiful gesture of appreciation, MKP Gauteng honored her wish, presenting her with the card during the luncheon.

I am so happy and fulfilled,” Gogo said, holding the card with pride. “I never thought this day would come, but I feel truly valued.

The Valentine’s Day event was not just about celebrations; it was a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and respecting senior citizens who have contributed to the community for decades. MKP Gauteng members, along with volunteers, ensured the elderly attendees enjoyed a day filled with music, food, and joyful conversations.

MKP Gauteng expressed their commitment to engaging with communities and uplifting those often overlooked. “This is about showing love and appreciation to our elders. Their wisdom and sacrifices have shaped our society, and we must continue to honor them,” said an MKP representative at the event.
