The uMkhonto weSizwe Party Women’s League (“MK Women’s League”) stands in unwavering solidarity with Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, following her court appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, on Thursday, for her alleged involvement in the deadly July 2021 unrest.

The unrest followed Zuma’s imprisonment for contempt of court and resulted in over 300 fatalities. She is facing charges under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA) and incitement to commit violence.

In a statement released, the MK Women’s league said the case is not just about Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, it represents a systemic effort to discredit and weaken women who speak truth to power. Time and again, politically motivated cases are brought forward with little substance, not to secure convictions but to destroy reputations through media narratives and public opinion long before any verdict is reached.

As women of the MK Party, we refuse to stand by while those who fight for justice are vilified. Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s fight is our fight. We reject any system that seeks to silence, discredit or marginalize women of courage. We demand justice, dignity, and accountability—not just for Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, but for every woman whose voice threatens the oppressive status quo.

Zuma-Sambudla’s court case has been postponed to 20 March 2025 and The MK Party women’s league calls on all women to unite and be present at her next court appearance.
