The uMkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP) announced it’s newly appointed leadership structures for Gauteng and Limpopo on Thursday, 23 January 2025.

The announcement follows the resolutions of its National Officials first meeting that was held in Durban on 21 January 2025. This was part of the Party’s broader plan to strengthen its organisational structures ahead its provincial and regional launches set for later this year.

Secretary General of the MKP, Floyd Shivambu appreciated the successful work carried out by the provinces of Gauteng, Mpumalanga , and KwaZulu-Natal in hosting the first anniversary activities and programs. He emphasized the importance of fully establishing detachments at all levels, including Provincial, regional, sub-regional, and ward by the end of 2025.

In Limpopo, Charmaine Petunia Nel was appointed as Convenor, with Kgosi Letsiri Phahla as Deputy Convenor and Tshilidzi Maraga as Coordinator. The Gauteng’s leadership will be led by Convenor Witness Nyembe, supported by Deputy Convenor Moses “Pumpgun” Makhaza and Coordinator Mzukisi Ronyuza.

The Party also appointed Adv. Dali Mpofu as Chairperson of the National Disciplinary Committee and Deputy President John Hlophe as the Chairperson of the National Disciplinary Appeals.

“We are going to listen to people who have got concerns regarding the appointed leadership members, they must explain to us why they think the ones appointed are not fit for the positions assigned to them. The problem with most complainants is that , when you ask them who should have been appointed, they would want to nominated themselves,” stated Shivambu.

He also clarified that the criteria used to appoint members targeted the MKP’s members who demonstrated the capacity to lead at any level and have skills to maintain proper balance of leadership.
