The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has sent a letter to the Auditor-General, strongly condemning the reckless and wasteful spending on preparations for the 2025 Budget Speech, which was ultimately cancelled. The party argues that this incident highlights the Government of National Unity’s (GNU) failure to govern responsibly.
According to the party, millions of rands were squandered on logistics, security, printing, travel, consultants, and media arrangements for a Budget Speech that never took place. In a time when South Africans are facing rising costs, unemployment, and service delivery challenges, this misuse of public funds is seen as a direct insult to the people.
The MK Party has officially requested that the Auditor-General conduct a thorough forensic audit of the expenses related to the cancelled Budget Speech. The audit should encompass costs including venue bookings, security, and protocol services; the printing and promotional materials, such as thousands of now-unused budget documents, speech scripts, and media kits; travel and accommodation for ministers and government officials who stayed in hotels and received allowances for an event that never took place; payments to external consultants and advisory services for work that was not used; and the broadcasting and media arrangements, including live streaming and press conference setups, that were wasted on a non-existent Budget Speech.

The party also claimed that the GNU fiasco has not only humiliated the nation but also exacerbated the fiscal crisis due to sheer incompetence. The MK Party is determined to hold those responsible accountable for this reckless misuse of public funds, and they demand immediate action to prevent further looting disguised as governance.
