The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) congratulates Dr. Patrice Motsepe on his unopposed re-election as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a second term. This achievement, confirmed at the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, reflects the confidence and trust the African football community has in his leadership.
Dr. Motsepe has shown visionary leadership in stabilizing CAF, especially during challenging times for African football. His first term saw significant financial recovery, with CAF reporting a $72 million profit (R1,314,000,000) from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a substantial increase compared to previous tournaments. His efforts to improve football infrastructure across the continent have also been successful, reducing the number of nations unable to host international matches due to inadequate facilities from 36 in 2021 to 12 in 2025.
As a proud South African leader, Dr. Motsepe has elevated African football and strengthened the continent’s global standing. His re-election highlights the unity and stability he has brought to CAF. The MK Party anticipates further progress under his leadership, especially in creating more opportunities for young African players and promoting the sustainable growth of the sport.
The party said it is dedicated to promoting African excellence in sports and other areas. They acknowledge the vital role sport plays in nation-building, economic development, and youth empowerment. According to the MK Party, Dr. Motsepe’s ongoing leadership at CAF aligns with the party’s broader vision of developing African-led solutions to the continent’s challenges.
