Family, friends and colleagues gathered for the memorial service of renowned Actress Connie Chiume at the Oasis of Life family Church in Daveyton today. Her life was celebrated by creative Industry friends, colleagues, associates and fans. The service was joined by Government officials too. Connie Chiume died on August 6 at Garden city Hospital after a short illness at the age of 72. Connie Chuime appeared in Zone 14, Mazinyo Dot Q, Soul City, Losing Lerato, Seriously Single, Rhythm City, Wakanda Forever, Beyonce’s Black is king and more recently Heart of the Hunter.
Chiume was afforded a special provincial funeral for her contributions and profound impact she had on the entertainment industry.
Mbalula thanked the Chiume family for sharing her with the world.
“I’m grateful for our government to have honoured her. To honour Connie is not a favour, it’s what she deserves,” said Mbalula.
She was laid to rest at Lala Ngoxolo Cemetery in Crystal Park, Benoni.
The internationally acclaimed actress has featured in notable films and television shows such as Black Panther, Yizo Yizo 2, Gomora, Rhythm City, Black is King, Blessers and Zone 14.
Chiume previously lived in Farrarmere with her family before moving to Kempton Park
Veteran Playwright Dr John Kani described the late Connie Chiume as an incredible human being who worked hard and conquered the male-dominated entertainment industry. He added that she was always considerate about upcoming Artists and wellbeing of the industry.
