Malusi Booi granted R250,000 bail

Malusi Booi, the former Human Settlements MMC for the City of Cape Town, and his nine co-accused have been granted bail and will be released from custody. Booi appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court alongside his ex-wife Nomvuyo Mnyaka, former girlfriend Lorna Ndoda, and seven others, including former Cape Town public housing director Siphokazi September

The co-accused include:

  • Lorna Ndoda (former girlfriend)
  • Siphokazi September (former Cape Town public housing director)
  • Mohammed Amod
  • Randall Mullins
  • Suraya Manual
  • Brenda Mullins
  • Thuli Imgibi
  • Abdul-Kader Davids

They’re accused of being involved in a billion-rand tender fraud involving the city’s Human Settlements directorate.

The State indicated that it won’t be opposing bail and asked the court to set the bail between R20,000 & R200. 000

Magistrate Alida Theart expressed concerns over the lack of substantial evidence from Malusi Booi and his co-accused, stating that their affidavits seemed “pro forma filled but nothing to prove” Magistrate Theart emphasized the importance of transparency, saying “it’s about providing evidence… Playing open cards is vital at this point in time”

The court granted Booi bail of R250,000 with conditions, including no contact with witnesses and requiring permission from the investigating officer to leave the Eastern Cape

Co-accused Manual, Abdul Kader, Amod, and Randall Mullins received R250,000 bail each, while Brenda Mullions also got R250,000 bail. Imgibi, Mnyaka, Ndoda, and September were granted R25,000 bail each
