Load Shedding Suspended Due to Sufficient Replenishment of Emergency Reserves

NEWSTOP STORIES

Eskom has announced that the Stage 3 load shedding scheduled for Sunday, 2 February 2025 has been suspended due to sufficient replenishment of energy reserves.

This announcement follows a statement released by Eskom on Friday, 31 January 2025, stating that due to the high amount of electricity breakdowns around the country in the past seven days, the use of emergency energy reserves was needed.

These reserves were to be replenished over the week, extending repairs time. Thus the weekend load shedding schedule.

“The weekend load shedding allows for the replenishment of the Open-Cycle Gas Turbines and pumped storage reserves for the next week. We are committed to ensuring that South Africa is in now way returning to the levels of load shedding that we experienced in 2023,” Eskom Group Executive Generation Bhakti Nxumalo.

Before this minor setback over this weekend, South Africa had experienced 10 months of uninterrupted electricity supply.

To continue this success, Eskom kindly urges South African to turn off all electric appliances not in use and to turn off geysers  and pool pumps during 17:00 and 21:00. These actions help alleviate pressure on the power grid, minimising the chances of load shedding.
