Six football shirts worn by Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have sold for $7.8 million at auction
The jerseys have been hanging in the Sotheby’s foyer in New York for the past two weeks, with some of them still covered in dirt, Messi wore them for every round of the competition, including the thrilling penalty-filled final match between Argentina and France, which Argentina won
The auction was carried out online via the Sotheby’s website. Bidders had to register with Sotheby’s first, to deter timewasters.
The leading bid remained at $6.5million until the last minute before shooting up in the final minute to $7.8m
