Kaizer Chiefs Sign Midfielder Thabo Cele After 9 Years in Europe

Kaizer Chiefs, the Soweto giants, made three new signings during the January transfer window to strengthen their squad.

Kaizer Chiefs announce the signing of the KZN Academy graduate midfielder Thabo Cele joins Kaizer Chiefs after spending nine years in Europe. The 28-year-old signs on a free transfer. A representative of South Africa youth levels, including U20 and U23, as well as earning caps for the senior national team, Bafana Bafana.

In addition, Kaizer Chiefs strengthened their attacking depth by signing Glody Lilepo on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Adding more experience to the squad they also signed Tashreeq Morris has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs.

“It’s been a long time coming for Thabo, and we are both glad that he’s finally here,” Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr told the official Chiefs website. “We know his quality and we are looking forward to his contribution to the squad as we continue to build.”

On Lilepo, a Chiefs statement read: “With 11 international caps for his national team, the attacker has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, which also includes an option for a further season. He has played 16 matches for Valenciennes in France this season, scoring four goals and making two assists.

Motaung further says “We would like to welcome Tashreeq to the Amakhosi family and look forward to his contributions in the upcoming matches. He is an experienced striker who came highly recommended by coach Nabi and his technical team after their assessment. We wish him all the best in the Gold & Black colours while here with us.
