The Office of the Directorate Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Judge organized a stakeholder engagement event focusing on public awareness in Durban on Friday, 21 February 2025. The campaign was led by the retired Judge President Francis Malesela Legodi.

The campaign ,held at Mayville Conference Centre, aimed to enhance public knowledge about the Office’s mandate, which involves investigating public complaints concerning serious and unlawful violations of rights stemming from investigations by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks).

The awareness initiative sought to inform the public about the functions of the Office of the DPCI Judge, which investigates allegations of serious rights infringements by the Hawks, as well as complaints from Hawks personnel regarding any undue influence in their operations, whether political or otherwise.

During the event, Justice Legodi highlighted the significance of the Office’s purpose and the need for increased public awareness.

Our objective is to ensure that the public is adequately informed about their rights and the processes available for addressing grievances regarding Hawks’ investigations. It is essential to maintain transparency and accountability to foster public trust.

Th program featured presentations and discussions with stakeholders, showcasing the Office’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the Hawks’ operations.

Participants were encouraged to ask questions and interact with Office representatives, promoting a deeper understanding of the Office’s duties.

Legodi further stated:

By increasing awareness of the Office of the DPCI Judge, we aim to strengthen the trust between the public and the Hawks. It is vital for the public to know they have a voice and that their concerns will be handled fairly and effectively.
