The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has confirmed that its operations will proceed as usual, despite the resignation of Dr. John Hlophe, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s Parliamentary leader, from the commission. The JSC spokesperson, Adv. Sesi Baloyi, clarified that they learned of Hlophe’s resignation through media reports, but have yet to receive official notification from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza
This development follows the Western Cape High Court’s temporary barring of Hlophe from participating in the Commission’s activities. However, the JSC maintained that Hlophe remained a designated Commissioner despite the interim court interdict.
“The JSC hasn’t received any notification from the Speaker of Parliament, so we will proceed with our scheduled business,” Baloyi stated.
“We found out from, you, the media that Dr Hlophe has resigned from the JSC. We’ve had a discussion. The position is that we haven’t yet received any notification from the speaker of parliament, the body that informs the JSC about designations and any changes.”
