Ingonyama trust offices shut down amidst Royal disputes

GENERAL NEWSNEWSTOP STORIES

The peaceful protest scheduled to happen at the Ingonyama trust offices in Pietermaritzburg by the AmaZulu Royal regiments (Umdidiyeli Wamabutho), on Friday 10 January, has been put on hold after releasing a statement stating that the CEO of the board, Mr Vela Mgwengwe, instructed staff to close the offices.

The protest by the Amazulu royal regiments is a significant development, highlighting concerns about the erosion of King Misuzulu’s authority as the chairperson of the Ingonyama Trust. In a statement released by the office of the AmaZulu Royal regiments, the protests aim was to demand clear and direct answers regarding the dignity and authority of the King, who also serves as the chairperson and sole trustee of the Ingonyama trust.

The king had also suspended six executive members of the trusts board, including Mgwengwe, as the AmaZulu Royal regiments investigate the alleged sale of land for over R22 million which occurred under unauthorised circumstances, breaching the Public Finance Management Act.

The AmaZulu Royal regiments, led by Prince Vanana Zulu, are said to reschedule the much anticipated protest for a later date.
