In a horrifying tragedy that has sent shockwaves across the Nongoma community, an IFP (Inkatha Freedom Party) ward councillor was brutally killed in an ambush on the R618 on Wednesday afternoon.
Ndukenhle Duma was recently elected following by-elections in one of the wards. Duma was killed near Ithendele coal mine in Mtubatuba where he had tenders to provide heavy plant services to the mine which has its own terrible history of killings.
According to preliminary investigations, the Nongoma Local Municipality-affiliated IFP ward councillor was ambushed while responding to a vehicle breakdown.A gang of armed men pulled up next his car and started shooting. Sadly, the council member passed away at the scene from his wounds.

During the shooting of Duma, a learner was mistakenly shot at and died on the scene. Three other learners on a scholar transport were injured and rushed to hospital.
General Fannie Masemola immediately responded to the horrible incident by dispatching the National Task Team responsible for probing political assassinations to the area.
