Hawks Official Charged with Corruption

Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) , commonly known as Hawks arrested one of their senior officers based on allegations of corruption and appeared before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court today.

Brigadier Mapome Mohajane (54), was granted bail of R10 000 and is set to appear in court again on 26 March 2025. The case stems from an incident on 14 January 2022 , Mohajane allegedly influenced a police investigating officer in a case against a councillor in one of the regions in Limpopo.

In a media statement released by the Hawks, it is alleged that he attempted to influence the investigator by promising tenders, future favours , and a promotion facilitated through his connections at the Hawk’s Head Office in exchange for assistance in the councillor’s case.

After a thorough investigation, the senior officer was charged with corruption and taken into custody.

The Hawk’s National Head, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya emphasized that the arrest of a senior officer highlights the Directorate’s ‘zero tolerance stance on corruption.

“Corruption, in any form , will not be tolerated within our ranks, no matter the seniority of the individual involved,” he said.

” I commend the investigations by the Serious Corruption Investigation team. The fact that we arrested one of our own is a clear indication that we execute our work without fear, favour , or prejudice.”

The arrest evidently reflects the Hawk’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining highest standards of integrity and accountability. The Directorate has reaffirmed its zero tolerance towards corruption and it’s dedication to preserving public trust.
