Grade R learner goes missing on first day of school

NEWS

The first day of school turned into a nightmare for a Grade R learner and his family in KwaZulu-Natal, who have been searching for him since Wednesday afternoon.

The learner, identified as Lindokuhle, is a pupil at Sydenham Primary School in Durban. He accidentally got into the wrong taxi after school and did not arrive at his home on Kennedy Road.

The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department confirmed the incident and appealed to the public to help locate the missing child.

Journalist Nivashni Nair Sukdhev posted on social media that Lindokuhle’s mother had visited several police stations in the area but had no luck finding him.

She urged anyone who had seen him or knew where he was to contact Sydenham Police Station on 031 203 2707 or Lindokuhle’s mother on 061 451 1192.

Public schools across the country reopened on Wednesday, marking the start of the 2024 academic year. For many learners, it was a day of excitement, joy, and learning, but for Lindokuhle and his family, it was a day of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty.
